OUR START

The DentOut Story

Our journey began in 1991, in a small home office in Humble, TX, about 20 miles north of downtown Houston. We started with a simple goal: to offer high-quality work at an affordable price.

At the time, paintless dent repair was a relatively obscure trade, with far fewer tools, products, and training resources available than there are today. Much of the learning came through trial and error, patience, and more trial and error. We slowly perfected the craft of paintless dent repair, practicing on discarded hoods from wrecked cars in our garage until we were confident enough to begin working on actual vehicles. We then offered our neighbors free dent repair in exchange for feedback on the quality of our work.

After six months of practice, we began offering our services to local rental car agencies and dealerships. Those early accounts gave us the opportunity to work on a wide variety of vehicles and dents while continuing to refine our techniques. What had started with junk hoods in a garage was gradually becoming a business built around a new and increasingly valuable approach to automotive repair.

By 1994, our work led us into automotive hail repair. We soon began repairing hail-damaged vehicles for a local Honda dealership, where the scale of the damage presented an entirely different challenge. Instead of repairing an isolated dent or two, hail could leave dozens—or even hundreds—of dents across a vehicle.

As the scale and complexity of our work grew, the demands placed on our repairs grew too. Working across different vehicles, environments, and types of damage continually challenged us to improve and better understand what could be accomplished without conventional bodywork. Hail quickly became a major part of our business.

In 1996, we turned our full-time focus to “hail chasing,” following major storms wherever the work was. What began locally in Humble grew into operations across the U.S. and eventually abroad, repairing thousands of vehicles for new-car dealerships, body shops, commercial fleets, and other automotive partners.

Hail chasing required us to become more than dent technicians. Large hail events meant mobilizing quickly, working on hundreds or thousands of vehicles, coordinating with dealerships and body shops, and maintaining consistent repair quality under demanding conditions. Over the years, that experience exposed us to an enormous range of vehicles, materials, damage patterns, repair techniques, and working environments.

Working in this field also gave us a firsthand understanding of the tools and materials technicians depended on every day. When existing products didn’t meet the demands of the work, we began experimenting with better solutions of our own. Over time, that hands-on experience grew into another side of DentOut—developing and supplying products for professional PDR technicians.

Glue pulling became an increasingly important part of modern PDR, expanding what technicians could accomplish without traditional access to the back of a panel. After decades of using these methods in real-world repairs, our interest has grown beyond simply using or selling PDR glue. Today, we continue exploring the materials, methods, and variables behind adhesion with the goal of better understanding and advancing what glue pulling can do for the industry.

Through all of that growth, Humble has remained home. More than three decades after we began practicing in our garage, our headquarters are still here, now operating from a 7,000 sq. ft. shop. Today, we bring our  experience gained from decades of hail repair and paintless dent repair back to individual vehicle owners, applying the same principles to modern vehicles that we developed through years of sweat and tears.

The tools and techniques have changed considerably since 1991, but the principle behind our work has remained remarkably consistent. Paintless dent repair has always given us a way to repair damage without unnecessary bodywork and refinishing. For us, that principle has grown into a broader commitment to preserving originality, craftsmanship, and the character of the vehicles entrusted to us whenever possible.

A lot has changed since those early days in the garage, but our commitment to honesty, integrity, and quality have remained the same. And we’re still following the hail road wherever it takes us.
